Since I got into the musicals, a lot of people have asked me, 'So what is this 'Seramyu' anyway?'

Seramyu, or the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Musicals, are a popular live-action stage play in Japan. The musicals started in 1993, and are still being made! The best part is, you don't have to travel to Japan to see the musicals (though many of us would LOVE to!). Each musical has at least one performance released on video. Some of them have a second video called a kaiteban, or revision. The revisions contain script, costume, cast, and other changes that the producers thought would make the show better. Many musicals also have available behind the scenes and fan event videos. These are very hard to find, since they are only sold at the event.

The musicals have been divided into stages, according to cast changes and are identified by the actress who plays SailorMoon. The first stage starred Oyama Anza as SailorMoon, the second stage starred Hara Fumina, the third was Kanbe Miyuki, and the fourth Kuroki Marina. The musicals don't generally follow the anime or manga plots, though they may use some of the same villains and scenerios. For example, Galaxia is still after the Star Seeds. For more about the plots, you'll have to visit the separate info pages listed below.
