This musical is based on the Sailormoon Stars anime.
Usagi and the others are getting ready for the Music Festival at
their high school. Three mysterious men show up; pop idols calling
themselves the Three Lights. Usagi and her friends are enamored
with them, but the older senshi are suspicious of them. Meanwhile,
evil forces have appeared on Earth once again. Sailorgalaxia, the
strongest senshi in the universe, appears searching for seeds of
true stars- the Stars Seeds of the Sailor Senshi. Galaxia, her Senshi-the
Animamates(called the Chouberibadomates in the musical) and a made-up
character called MCFly helps her search for the Star Seeds. They
appear to try and defeat the Sailor Senshi but are stopped by three
mysterious senshi calling themselves the Sailor Starlights. It will
later be revealed that they in reality the Three Lights and they
came to Earth to find their missing princess. After their defeat,
Galaxia and the Chouberibadomates put their plan into affect. They
form a trap by appearing in the Music Festival and causing trouble.
When the Senshi appear, the enemy knows who they are and can easily
take their Star Seeds. Ultimately, everyone's Star Seed, with the
exception of Sailormoon, Sailorchibi-moon, Sailor Saturn, and the
Sailor Starlights, are taken out. With renewed courage, Sailormoon
confronts Galaxia and her cronies. Sailorchibimoon, Sailorsaturn
and the Sailor Starlights later appears to help her. Tuxedokamen
also makes late appearance; it seems as though Mamoru was not in
America but rather pretending to be a bad guy (a fake MCFly) In
the final battle, Sailormoon transforms into Eternal Sailormoon
and all of the senshi are brought back to life with Starlight Honeymoon
Therapy Kiss and Sailorsaturn's Death Reborn Revolution. McFly and
the Chouberibadomates are defeated by the Sailor Senshi and Galaxia
herself is defeated by Eternal Sailormoon and Sailorchibimoon's
combined attack, Silver Crystal Double Therapy Kiss. Peace is restored.
This musical is also slightly based on the manga with the adding
of Sailorchi and Sailorphi as villains.
When I first saw this musical, I instantly fell in
love with it. Before I got this musical, I downloaded clips of the
SailorStars anime and musical; both of which made me laugh. Certain
aspects of the musical were very similar to the anime, although
the changes are noticeable (no Aluminum Siren and Lead Crow) After
watching the clips, I had to buy the musical. It became and still
is my all-time favorite musical.
The acting in this musical was great, well,
the majority of the acting was great. Ooyama Anza-sama really shone
like a star as Usagi-chan. She portrayed the Usagi of the anime
to a tee; cute, whiny, energetic, clumsy, loving. She's just perfect!
Another great actress is Morino Ayako-sama as that lovable bookworm
Ami-chan. One good thing about Morino-sama is that she doesn't play
Ami as the nerdy stereotype she is on the anime, but rather sweet,
charming, and very strong-willed. Another great actress is Kotani
Misako-sama as Rei-chan. She has that fiery spark just like Rei
in the anime and she fusses at Usagi just like in anime too. I really
liked the actress for Mako-chan, Satou Emika-sama. She played the
fearless, strongwilled senshi of thunder perfectly and she was pretty
funny. And then there's that Venus. Nakaya Kanatsu-san was not right
for Venus at all. You thought the Venus of the SuperS musical was
bad, well, this one was even worse. Not only does she have a lisp,
but she can't dance (watch carefully during La Soldier, she misses
up really bad during the dance), and she makes really strange, ditzy
faces. Now for the Outers. Kimura Sanae-sama was OK as Haruka; she
seemed to get into the role a little more (her voice seems deeper)
and her suspicion of Seiya-san is just like in the anime. I REALLY
like the actress for Michiru-san. Harada Hiroko-sama was the only
actress to capture Michiru's elegance, grace and sophistication.
And she plays the violin- how cool is that?!? Saito Rei-sama was
great as Setsuna-san as always; she started portraying Setsuna's
motherly side in this musical, along with the musical to follow.
She's also quite a comedian (yokatta obaa-san jaa nakute) Takeda
Keiko-sama was also great as Hotaru-chan. Many complain about her
height- keep in mind she's a 20 year old playing a 13 year old.
Does it matter? She's good as Hotaru, let's just leave at that.
I really liked Kawasaki Mao-sama as Chibi-usa; she looks just like
the anime counterpart; but at least she isn't as annoying . sidenote:
Kawasaki Mao-sama plays Black(Wicked) Lady in the newest musical.
Mochizuki Yuuta-sama was pretty good as Mamoru; he's funny as the
fake MCFly and even funnier in the time warp scene. The Three Lights
were hilarious; they picked really good actresses to play these
guys..er...girls. Katayama Sayuri-sama was a great find as Seiya-san;
she really captured Seiya's playboy side and his/her loyal, loving
side. I also think that she's very cute and she has a nice voice(and
looks good in her Starlight uniform). Too bad she didn't come back
to do more musicals. I LOVED Ono Hikari-sama as Taiki-san; she's
one of my favorite Seramyu actresses and Taiki is my favorite Starlight.
She looks and acts just like him. She's awesome!!! I really disliked
Yaten in the anime, but the actress who played him, Okuyama Momoko-san,
made me like him. She's so friggin' funny. I'm glad she didn't play
Yaten like he's portrayed in the anime. The Three Lights as a whole
really made this musical funny. Now the villains. I wasn't all that
wild about the actress who played Galaxia. She didn't really look
the part, but as far as acting goes, she was okay; the actress for
Eien Densetsu was much better. She's a pretty good dancer though.
Kasahara Ryuji-sama was cool as MCFly, although I grew tired of
his monologues. He wasn't as funny as he usually is in other musicals,
but the fight scene in Act I and the time warp scene made up for
it. He's a really good dancer too and an awesome acrobat. The Chouberibadomates
were okay, but the ones from the original were better. Iemura Junko-san
was pretty good as Pewterfox; she had that evil villainess look
about her; her singing voice could really use some work. Maruyama
Chie-san was a cute Ironmouse. I didn't really care for the actress
for Titaniumkerokko (it's not Croc like so many people have on their
Seramyu sites; it's kerokko- it basically mean "froggy")
The one in Eien Densetsu was better. I liked the actress for Tinnyanko-
she's cute, looks good in her costume, and is not as annoying as
the Tin Nyanko in the anime. I didn't get the point of Sailorbuttress
being there. I know it's a pun (a buttress is an iron support in
a building and Sailorbuttress supports Galaxia) but she was annoying
and screeched when she talked or sang; they really could have left
her out. In the original, the back-up dancers were double-casted
as both MCFly's henchmen and the Galaxia's senshi. In this version,
they are simply Galaxia's senshi, although they wear their MCFly
henchmen costumes as well as their senshi uniform.
The score was really good for this musical.
Chasin' After You is one of my favorite Seramyu songs; it's so much
better the Nagareboshi E. I also liked the Overture; Kimura-sama
and Harada-sama looked really good onstage together; it reminded
me of the anime. Light ni Adventure was cute. Ooyama-sama sounded
really good in Lonely Distance; it was sweet and kinda sad. I liked
Star Hunter, except for the constant "FAAJI, FAAJI, FAAJI,
FAAJI"; it's the only villain song I know of the tells the
plot. I didn't really care for Galaxia no Dokusai, not so much the
song itself but rather the actress singing it. Sailor War Supreme
was awesome and it made a really good finale; I'm glad it was lip-synched.
I friggin' love Knockin' Down Hesitation; it's such a cool ass song
and Ooyama-sama sounded really good singing it, especially on the
CD soundtrack. See Me Boku-tachi no Jidai is also a cool song- three
part harmony- how cool is that! For some strange reason, I really
like It's Chou Very Bad; the song makes absolutely no sense but
it's still one of my favorite songs ever. It was better in the original
musical though. Another song that was better in the original was
Sailor Busters; I was mad that the medley was taken out; that was
the cool part of the song (and the toilet stall chasing Usagi-chan
around the stage). The scene was still funny though. Sorezore no
Elegy was sad and touching. A Knight for Sailor Soldiers was okay
but I wished that he sung Tuxedo Royale or better yet Tuxedo Mission
instead. Solar Miracle was a good choice for a fighting song, but
it's no La Moon. I also liked Densetsu Seitan; it kinda reminded
me of We are the World or some other song of that effect. L'Amour
D'amour Moonlight is a cool song and I liked that everyone danced
to it. Finally, La Soldier was great and full of energy, as always.
(Remember, watch Venus during this number).
This is a kick ass musical. Although some aspects
were better in the original version, the revision is definitely
the version to get. The music was great and so was the acting. The
scenes were crisp and they flowed nicely, that is until the time
warp scene. Don't get me wrong, I really liked that scene and I
thought it was very funny, but it was a roadblock. It was a little
long and it stopped the flow of the show, but it was still a funny
scene though. Speaking of which, there were a couple of funny scenes;
my favorite is the rooftop scene with Usagi-chan, Setsuna-san, and
the Three Lights. But moving right along, this is just a great musical
and even if you've never seen the Sailormoon Stars anime or if you
don't know Japanese, you would still understand what's going. I
managed to get my 11 year old little brothers to watch it; neither
one knew what they were saying but they still liked it. So what
I'm basically saying is "go and get this musical if you don't
already have it." This, along with the Super S Kaiteiban musical,
is the best musical in the First Stage Series.
